Wine country and Hagg Lake in Forest Grove

Forest Grove sits at the northern end of the Willamette Valley, with wine country close by and a large county lake a short drive southwest.

Wine country

The Willamette Valley Wineries Association runs the Willamette Valley Wines site. Its page on the Willamette Valley American Viticultural Area (AVA) reports 736 wineries, 931 vineyards and 3,438,000 acres, with the valley stretching 109 miles from Eugene to Portland. The Tualatin Hills AVA, which Wikipedia says was established on June 3, 2020, lies in and around Gaston, Forest Grove, Sherwood and Cornelius. The Oregon Wine Board is the state agency for Oregon's wine community. We list no individual wineries here, and the associations keep the current visitor information.

Henry Hagg Lake

Washington County describes Scoggins Valley Park as about 8 miles southwest of Forest Grove, at the base of the Oregon Coast Range. Henry Hagg Lake is a fish-stocked reservoir of about 1,100 acres inside the park. The park has picnic shelters, boat launches, more than 14 miles of hiking trails, an 18-hole disc golf course and a large fishing pier. The county says it gets roughly 750,000 visitors a year. The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation owns the park, and Washington County Parks maintains and operates it. Check the county for current hours, passes and conditions.
